The Western Veterinary Conference (WVC) is accepting applications for the 2012 Food Animal Incentive Award. Five (5) veterinarians will be selected to receive the award and they will receive paid travel and $1,000 stipend to attend the WVC in Las Vegas, Nevada in February 2012. Applicants should be a graduate veterinarian engaged in a food animal medicine, surgery, production medicine or theriogenology internship or in the first year of an AAVC listed residency. Graduate students in epidemiology may also apply.
PURPOSE
The Food Animal Incentive Awards recognize recent graduates from veterinary colleges or schools to:
- Encourage veterinarians to enter food animal practice or other careers directly related to food animal practice, such as food animal education and/or research.
- Help develop their leadership skills and aid their progress as future leaders in food animal practice and related activities.
- Showcase the educational enrichment opportunities offered by the Western Veterinary Conference.
EXPECTATIONS OF THE RECIPIENTS
- Meet certain deadlines for travel planning and conference registration.
- Provide a 5×7 head shot 300 dpi in .TIFF or .jpg format
- Attend the food animal sessions throughout the week of the conference
- Attend certain social functions, including an awards luncheon
- Assist with a hands-on or “wet lab” program that emphasizes food animal topics, if possible
- Present an overview of their experience at the WVC to fellow interns/residents during rounds or house officer meetings within one month following their return home.
REQUIREMENTS
Recipients must be a graduate of an AVMA-accredited college or school of veterinary medicine and engaged in a food animal medicine, surgery, production medicine, theriogenology, or epidemiology graduate program, internship or in the first year of an AAVC recognized residency, either at a university or private practice. Graduate veterinarians from other schools or colleges, or in other training programs, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

- Provide letters of recommendation from two veterinarians.

- Background and prior experience

- Academic accomplishments and recommendations
