Advanced Soft Tissue Surgery

About This Course

This 2-day workshop is designed to teach participants the technical aspects of a variety of practical soft tissue surgery procedures. Some ‘theory’ will be included in the lectures, but emphasis will be placed on ‘how’ to perform each procedure. This will maximize the time participants spend in the laboratory. Topics have been chosen that represent surgical conditions commonly seen in veterinary practice and include lateral ear resection, total ear canal ablation with lateral bulla osteotomy (TECA-LBO), tracheostomy tube placement, three methods of chest drain placement, vulvarplasty for treatment of perivulvar dermatitis, how to easily and effectively palpate the female intrapelvic urethra for access to lodged urethral calculi, and tips for diaphragmatic hernia repair. Emphasis will be placed on the regional anatomy as well as the technical aspects used to perform each procedure. Videos of clinical case material will be used extensively throughout the lectures to help illustrate each technique before practicing them in the laboratory.
