About This Course

This is a blended educational experience where you will receive course content both online and at the Oquendo Center.

This continuing education event consists of two parts:

Part 1:  This course will start out with online learning. A total of six hours of lecture will be posted online in advance of the course. Sessions can be viewed online at your convenience after January 15th.  There will also be an interactive message board where you can post questions for the instructors and a mandatory online test. This will be the lecture portion of the course and must be completed prior to arriving at the Oquendo Center.   

Part 2:  The course continues with a two day hands on laboratory at the Oquendo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday and Monday January 27-28, 2019. You will go right into lab on Sunday morning. This 2-day laboratory is designed to focus on canine and feline dentistry in order to strengthen the attendee’s knowledge and skills in dog and cat exodontia. Complete oral examination, charting, and treatment planning will be thoroughly reviewed. Discussion of intraoral radiographic acquisition and interpretation, periodontal disease, gingivostomatitis, tooth resorption, common oral tumors, and extraction techniques will be presented with numerous visual aids to enhance learning and increase retention for the attendees. Pathophysiology and treatment planning for the aforementioned diseases will be covered. Clinical cases will be used to set the stage for step-by-step presentations for canine tooth extractions with heavy emphasis on being able to predict the difficult tooth extraction, extraction pitfalls and complications will be presented to help attendees minimize complications and address complications if they should occur in clinical practice. The laboratory will provide the opportunity to put clinical skills into practice.

Course Objectives

  1. Understand clinical presentations, current knowledge of pathophysiology, diagnostics, and treatment options and techniques for canine and feline periodontal disease, tooth resorption, fractured teeth, and common oral neoplasia

  2. Produce and interpret feline and canine intraoral radiographs

  3. Perform surgical extractions of the dog and cat dentition

  4. Increase knowledge, confidence, and skill level in diagnosing and treating canine and feline dental and oral diseases
